Toyota's Indiana plant receives award
Toyota's Indiana plant, in Princeton, has received the Governor's Award for Environmental Excellence.
When Toyota decided to eliminate the environmental impact of their production processes, they utilized the Toyota "8-Step Problem Solving Technique" to realize that treatment operators were routinely over-treating wastewater. Team members were then able to implement new processes that reduced waste by 3.23 pounds per vehicle or 890,000 pounds per year. Toyota also realized savings of $90,000 in waste disposal and $25,000 in chemical costs in 2007.
"Our commitment to environmental stewardship and continuous improvement are where two of Toyota's principals combine to produce positive results," said RJ Reynolds, Vice President, Administration at TMMI. "We appreciate this award and the recognition it brings to our efforts to be a leader in minimizing industry's impact on the environment."
